11th Annual Fall Bike Fest

Saturday, September 28, 2024
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cupertino Civic Center Plaza

Safe Routes to School celebrated another successful Cupertino Fall Bike Fest last Saturday September 28th! The 11th annual festival featured a plaza full of 30 different bike-related activities hosted by various local bike and environmental organizations. The core Bike Fest activities focused on bike safety, and included helmet checks by Walk-Bike Cupertino, bike repair by Community Cycles of California, and traffic safety skills training by Safe Moves.  Then festival goers could apply those skills by participating in one of our two community bike rides.  Our 10-mile Park Tour Ride, led by the Black Mountain Composite high school mountain bike team (BMC), featured a tour of 11 of Cupertino’s parks and had nearly 90 riders. Close to 200 riders came out for the ever-popular 2.5 mile Family Fun Ride and Scavenger Hunt (led by Bicycle Solutions), with kids as young as 3 riding their own bikes.

On the plaza were opportunities to engage in numerous bike-themed crafts (helmet decorating by Tino Eco, bike license plate making by Saratoga Biking Club, and bike jewelry by Eco Valley) and games (on-bike games, spin art, sLEDgehammer) and snacks (pedal powered smoothies).  Three art installations were showcased: our festival mascot, Poppy, by Balloonatics; chalk art on Torre Ave by Active Circle; and an art installation from Eco Valley made of recycled materials, featuring retired orange pedestrian crossing flags from Cupertino crosswalks.

Many thanks to Mayor Mohan for her keynote speech, along with the other City Council members and BPC and Sustainability Commissioners who came out to help.  We are very grateful to all 137 volunteers and vendors and our community members who turned out in droves to support cycling in Cupertino.  We look forward to the next Bike Fest!
