City Manager David Brandt is responsible to the City Council for the effective and efficient operation of the City. Under the direction of the City Council as a whole, the City Manager carries out the City's adopted goals and objectives. The City Manager also oversees the Sustainability Programs and is responsible for developing and sustaining community-building activities that increase citizen involvement in the community.
The City Manager also works closely with Cupertino's public safety providers (Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and Santa Clara County Fire Department), as well as with the elementary, high school, and college districts.
City Manager David Brandt has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Arts degree in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan. He has also received his juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. David practiced land-use law in Oakland with a private firm before working for the City of Alameda for 10 years. Immediately prior to coming to Cupertino, he served as City Manager in Redmond, Oregon.
