Recreation and Community Services

A Message from the City Manager
To the Residents of Cupertino,

Last year marked the beginning of major changes throughout our City departments. In the last fiscal year I've made several changes that will create a higher performing organization.

With the Adopted Fiscal Year 14/15 budget, the City Council approved the recommendation to change the name of the "Parks and Recreation Department" to "Recreation and Community Services". The programs provided by the department are broad based and comprised of recreation, community and neighborhood programs.

With the appointment of the new director, the following divisions have been added to the department due to their neighborhood and community focus. These include:

    Disaster Preparedness – SCC Fire liaison and Disaster Council;
    Citizen Corps (CERT, MRC, CARES);
    Neighborhood Watch;
    Blockleader; and
    Sister Cities.

The department will also be partnering with the Public Works department to communicate maintenance goals and objectives for our parks and facilities and to provide input for major capital projects throughout the design and construction process.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Recreation and Community Services team for their outstanding effort in providing programs and facilities that make Cupertino the best community to live, work, and play!

Respectfully submitted,

David Brandt
City Manager
