HOURS PER WEEK: 10 to 20 hours (approximate)
SALARY RANGE: $13.00 to $15.00 per hour

City of Cupertino is recruiting for customer service-oriented individuals to staff the front desk at the Quinlan Community Center.
The Customer Service Attendant I typically works evenings Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm and/or Saturday 8:15 am to 4:45 pm. There are occasional weekday morning and afternoon hours as well. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position limited to 995 hours per fiscal year.
Under limited supervision, a Customer Service Attendant I provides information, assistance, and outstanding customer service to customers, class instructors, and the general public while answering phones and performing various clerical duties that include processing registrations for customers signing up for recreation programs, filing paperwork, and maintaining reports and records.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Accepting and accounting for money paid for programs and facilities
- Issuing receipts
- Preparing simple reports
- Filing paperwork
- Answering questions and fielding complaints from customers and referring them to appropriate staff
- Opening and closing classrooms and facilities for weekday, weekend, and evening rentals and recreation classes
- Performing a final security inspection before securing and locking the building
- May also be responsible for setting up rooms and assisting with various special events.
- May perform additional duties as required.
Knowledge of: Basic principles of customer service, office procedures and methods, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to: The Customer Service Attendant I must be able to: perform clerical work with accuracy; explain policies and procedures; operate a computer including Microsoft Office; demonstrate the ability to learn recreation software; understand and follow written and oral instructions; manage time effectively, show initiative, and work independently; learn policies and procedures applicable to the operation of the City; work with a diverse population in a tactful and effective manner; obtain information through questioning and deal courteously with the public. May sit at a desk for long periods of time; intermittently twist and reach office equipment, and bend, squat, kneel, or twist while managing physical files; hand write and use a keyboard; lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Customer service experience a plus
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. Current CPR and First Aid certification (CPR and First Aid certification and re-certification will be offered to new employees).
