Join A Ranger - Nature Walk & Talk

Join a Ranger are FREE Park Ranger-led, family friendly programs in the Stevens Creek Corridor. These programs are designed to educate and entertain park visitors. Our Park Rangers are your local experts, with plenty of stories and fascinating facts about Steelhead Trout, mountain lions, native raptors, the Riparian ecosystem, local history, and more.

Apex Predator Workshop
Saturday, September 7, 2019 | 1:00p-2:30p

The Park Rangers invite you to an Apex Predator workshop! Learn about local Apex Predators like coyotes and owls, and how they play an important role in the ecology of their environment. Enjoy a hands-on activity making animal track casts followed by a short nature walk to explore the surrounding habitat.

Nature Walk & Talk
Saturday, October 12, 2019 | 3:00p-4:30p

Join the Park Rangers for a nature walk! We will take a closer look at some of the native plants, animals, and seasonal insects found in the Stevens Creek Corridor. Learn more about Yellow Jackets and Paper Wasps, including how they make their nests. The walk will be approximately one mile on a fairly flat surface, however, sturdy walking shoes are encouraged. Bring binoculars if you have them!

Night Hike & Flashlight Tour
Saturday, November 9, 2019 | 5:00p-6:30p

Come and enjoy a fun-filled Night Hike and Flashlight Tour of McClellan Ranch Preserve and Blackberry Farm! We will explore the woods and nature at night, learn about nocturnal animal’s special adaptations, and test our heightened senses in the dark with games and activities. The hike is approximately one mile on a combination of dirt trails and paved paths. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, a warm jacket and bring a flashlight or head-lamp.

Wild Plant Uses: Edible, Medicinal, & Survival
Sunday, December 1, 2019 | 1:30p-3:00p

Join the Park Rangers in the exploration of many native and non-native wild plants found within the Riparian zones and Oak Savana grasslands of McClellan Ranch Preserve and Blackberry Farm. We will dive into the identification properties, edible-uses, medicinal-uses, and survival-uses of these amazing plant species.
