Setting the Standard in Quality Education 

Ask anyone in Silicon Valley what Cupertino is known for, and the answer likely will be, “great schools.” Cupertino’s residents long have made education a priority from kindergarten through college and beyond. With active support from parents, businesses and other community partners, the school districts that serve Cupertino’s students foster academic excellence and embrace diversity.  

Public Elementary and Middle Schools

Cupertino Union School District: Most children living in Cupertino attend elementary and middle school in the Cupertino Union School District, the largest elementary school district in northern California and one of the premier districts in the state. The District serves approximately 18,000 students in 19 elementary schools, one K-8 school and five middle schools throughout the City of Cupertino and parts of five other cities. Santa Clara Unified School District: Children living in a section of northeast Cupertino are served by the Santa Clara Unified School District’s Laurelwood Elementary School, which has approximately 700 students, and Peterson Middle School, which has approximately 900 students. Public High Schools 

Fremont Union High School District: Most Cupertino teenagers attend high school in the Fremont Union High School District. The District’s five high schools are highly ranked in the region, state and nation. Serving nearly 11,000 students, this 42-square-mile district encompasses Cupertino plus portions of five other cities. Find your school here. Santa Clara Unified School District: Teenagers living in a section of northeast Cupertino attend Wilcox High School in the Santa Clara Unified School District. Serving approximately 1,900 students, Wilcox ranks highly among schools in Santa Clara County with similar demographics. Find your school here. Private Elementary, Middle and High Schools

Several private schools offer elementary, middle and high school curricula in Cupertino and the surrounding area. Great Schools, a national nonprofit organization, is a resource for evaluating private schools. 

Higher Education 

De Anza Community College: Some of Cupertino’s high school graduates continue their education at the acclaimed De Anza Community College in Cupertino. De Anza ranks at or near the top statewide for community college transfers to the University of California, California State University and private universities. The college serves approximately 23,000 students.  

Public and Private Universities: Cupertino is only minutes from San Jose State University, Santa Clara University and Stanford University and within an hour’s drive of San Francisco State University and the U.C. Berkeley, San Francisco and Santa Cruz campuses.

Language and Cultural Immersion Schools

A number of schools and programs in Cupertino for children and adults focus on culture and language, including Chinese, Hindi, Japanese and Korean.
