Cupertino Union School District Measure A (Measure B (May 2009) and Measure C (May 2011) consolidated) parcel tax exemptions and refunds: On May 6, 2014, voters of the Cupertino Union School District approved Measure A that calls for the renewal and consolidation of both the Measure B and C parcel taxes. Measure A maintains the same rate previously approved by both Measures B and C. Measure A is an eight-year parcel tax of $250 per year effective July 1, 2015 and expiring June 30, 2023. It continues to offer the same exemptions as previous measures. A parcel is defined as any unit of land in the District that receives a tax bill from the Santa Clara County Tax Collector's Office. Community members qualify for this exemption if they are 65 years of age or older on or before June 30 of the current tax year, and are the owner of a parcel within the Cupertino Union School District, and that parcel is their principal residence. The senior must live in the home as of July 1 of the year the tax is due. Any homeowner already exempt from the Cupertino Union School District's parcel taxes does not need to reapply every year. The parcel tax exemption office annually mails a residency verification letter during the March/April timeframe to all homeowners receiving an exemption from the current year. To continue the exemption for the following tax year, homeowners need to simply sign and mail the residency verification letter back in the envelope provided to the Cupertino Union School District by June 1st. The Cupertino Union School District maintains a single exemption process for both taxes. As a result, all homeowners currently exempted from Measure B are automatically exempt from Measure C. Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) Measure B (2011) parcel tax exemptions and refunds:
Exemptions from the $98 tax are available to senior citizens (65 years or older) who own and occupy, as a principal residence, a parcel and apply to the District for exemption. Senior citizens who did not apply for an exemption and have paid the tax in full for the current tax year may apply for a refund. Your exemption is renewed automatically. There is no action needed on your part if you want to continue to receive the exemption. The District will send a letter to all exempted seniors in April to verify that they still want to continue to be exempted. Only those that want to end their exemption will need to respond. Follow this link to the FUHSD parcel tax exemption page.
Santa Clara Valley Water District (2015-2016) parcel tax exemptions:
Are you 65 years old or older? Live in your own home as your primary residence? The Santa Clara Valley Water District offers an exemption for qualifying low-income seniors for the Safe, Clean, Water Creeks special parcel tax. The tax was approved by the voters in November of 2012. The Enrollment Period is April 15 to June 30. All new applications must be received in this office by June 30 to be exempted for the upcoming property tax year. If you miss the enrollment period you must wait for the next year. Applications are available during the enrollment period each year. Once you have submitted the application, you do not have to re-apply every year. In the spring, usually by the end of March or early April, we will send you a letter asking if you still qualify. Once you have returned your verification form for ongoing eligibility, we will remove your property from the property tax roll for the Safe, Clean, Water charge for the next property tax year. If you have any questions please email seniorexemption@valleywater.org or call the SCVWD Tax Hotline: 408.630.2810. The exemption form is attached.
